Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a British American singer and musician, is well known for her musical talents. She was the youngest and first woman to receive the British House of Commons Award. Anoushka is the emerging star of Indian sitar. She is a student as well as granddaughter of legendary Ravi Shankar. She was born in 1982 in London. Her childhood years were spent between London in London and New Delhi. The first time she performed was on stage in New Delhi when she was thirteen years old. In 1999, she completed her high schooling within Encinitas CA. Anouskha is still a young woman, however she's got an remarkable career in the field of music and performance. She is often seen performing together with her dad, and has performed with him for many years. In 1998, she released her debut self-titled album Anourag. The album was titled Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years following. The stage work she has done is vast as she has appeared in all of the major stages in the world. Anoushka Shakar's talents are not only limited to music. She published Bapi the love of my life in 2002. It is a biography which pays tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. In addition, she has appeared in a number of films. In 2003, she was in the movie Dance Like a Man where she plays an aspiring Bharat Natyam dancer. Anoushka Shankar is an English born singer who travelled her childhood in London, Delhi and California. Anoushka started her music studies when she was nine. After four years she played her first sitar debut in Delhi at her father's 75th birthday party. Anoushka performed with her father during his world tour, gained a remarkable number of experiences. In her teenage years she appeared in Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD as well as recorded with George Harrison. She was the youngest woman to win the House of Commons Shield, awarded by British Parliament in recognition of her musicianship and artistry within music and the Asian Arts.
